I've been waiting until everything was working to make this announcement. We have about two weeks straight uptime on the new studio and servers now.

Years in the planning, this upgrade will do two things. Decrease outages and offer new stream types.

There is a link to the new mp3 stream for iTunes listeners on the main http://hober.com homepage.

Milestones: An eProtest download: FREE Realplayer from the Marketers!

A link is circulating around the web for a Realplayer download that is free of the normal gauntlet of marketing info.

Thanks to the Beeb! While we have followed channels, paid our fees and tried to direct our users to do the "responsible" thing, we are joining this backlash protest.

How many times have I heard that earnest Hober listeners have had to shell out $19.99 for the so-called "free" Realplayer simply because they were intentionally confused and mislead by Real Networks download page.

Yes, there is a "free" player on the Real download page, but it is hard to find, and then makes you give up more personal information than you feel comfortable with and tries to subscribe you to a litany of marketing spam and hides "opt out" choices.

I hope the folks at Real Networks take this to heart and do some introspection. If the money is more important to them than their client's experience, then we will have to switch to another player.

Milestones: New hober.com web site in beta testing.

You are using the new hober.com web site. We are now publishing using a Content Management System (CMS) which should allow for an expansion of high-quality content with little more overhead time. In the past the site was entirely hand-coded, which is great fun, but very time consuming.

Have fun clicking around. Let me know how you like it. Send a picture!
